Update -- Wednesday, 3:22 p.m.: The mother a 24-year-old Detroit man tells police she shot her son who was trying to break into her Farmington Hills apartment around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, The Detroit News reports.
The 42-year-old mom said she did it to defend herself and others in the apartment, reports Mike Martindale and Tom Greenwood of the News. She lives in Independence Green apartment complex around Halsted and Grand River.
The woman told police the son tried forcing his way into the apartment with a piece of concrete in his hand. There were two females and two infants in the apartment, police said.

A 24-year-old man from Detroit was fatally shot early Wednesday morning in what police are describing as a domestic dispute, WXYZ reports.
Police did not provide a lot of details, but said the shooting involved a mother and son.
The shooting happened at the Independence Green Apartments on Grand River and Halsted Road.
