A Report From Thursday Night
A Salvation Army bell ringer was shot and killed inside a Kroger store in Westland on Thursday evening, WXZY reports, citing an unnamed source.
The shooting happened around 6:20 p.m. at the store on Ford Road near Central City Parkway, the station reports.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.
The suspect is a teenage boy.
The Salvation Army, which is cooperating with police, released the following statement:
“The Salvation Army is profoundly heartbroken by the tragic incident that took place tonight at the Kroger in Westland. We lift up in prayer all who are affected.”
It was the second fatal incident inside a Metro Detroit Kroger store in recent months.
In October, a Kroger worker, 33, fatally stabbed a 23-year-old customer at a store on Fort Street in Southgate. Prosecutors later determined the worker acted in self-defense and did not file charges.
