Update: Wednesday, 9:38 a.m. -- Attorney General Bill Schuette filed a lawsuit Wednesday in the Flint water crisis against a water company and local engineering firm, alleging that their "acts and omission constitute professional negligence, fraud and public nuisance," the Free Press reports.
The civil lawsuit filed in Flint in Genesee County Circuit Court and obtained by the Detroit Free Press accuses the companies of causing "the Flint Water Crisis to occur, continue and worsen," the lawsuit said. The companies listed as defendants are Veolia North America, Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam and Leo A. Daly Co.
Original article, Wednesday morning:
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette plans to announce the filing of a lawsuit on Wednesday in the ongoing Flint water crisis.
Schuette will announce unspecified civil charges during a 10 a.m. press conference at the University of Michigan-Flint, reports Jonathan Oosting of The Detroit News. He'll be joined by Special Assistant Attorney General Noah Hall and members of his Flint water investigative team.
The civil lawsuit comes on top of criminal charges against two state workers and a Flint city employee. The civil suit would be on top of many already filed by private attorneys on behalf of Flint residents.
Back in April, Schuette assured everyone at a press conference in Flint that more criminal charges would be coming.
