About 300 folks showed up to Corktown’s new miniature golf course on Saturday for the first "Urban Put-Put" tournament.

“Urban Put-Put,” located across 14th street from Michigan Central Station, is part mini-golf, part installation art, and is being built out of salvaged materials by students from Lawrence Tech University.

November 17th press release.

The press release says:

With many of the courses referencing certain problems that currently affect Detroit such as construction, litter, burned down homes, and abandoned cars, the students aren’t making fun of the city, but instead as Coy said "For one, it makes a really interesting theme for a putt-putt course. For two, it's stuff that we're surrounded by and dealing with, so I think to have fun in those scenarios might be able to change some perceptions."

Full disclosure: Deadline Detroit became a sponsor of "Urban Put-Put" last week. Who wouldn't want their logo painted on a hubcap?
