Note to USA Today: Yes, as you know by now, there's more than one city of Monroe in the U.S.
The Monroe News reports that an article in USA Today mistakenly reported that Monroe, Mich. was the city with the highest violent crime rate over a four-year period among big U.S. cities.
The Monroe News wrote that the article reported that violent crime in Monroe, Mich., grew by nearly 160 percent -- from 222.1 cases per 100,000 people in 2009 to 575.5 in 2013. However, the 575.5 number was the rate for Monroe, Louisiana, not Monroe, Mich.
Ooops.
The paper reported that Douglas A. McIntrye, editor-in-chief and CEO of 24/7 Wall St., the organization that produced the piece, said:
“It’s wrong. We’re extremely embarrassed. We can’t apologize enough.”
