It wasn't all that long ago, in the pre-Chrysler/Eminem ad days, that the words "Detroit" and "travel destinations" simply weren't uttered in the same sentence. 

But Detroit has got something going for it in the public relations arena.

USA Today's Travel Tips recommends Detroit for a "girlfriends' getaway. 

 USA Today writes:

"It has worked hard to shed its image as a city on the decline, and thanks to some smart city planning and a gig hosting the 2006 Super Bowl, the Motor City is slowly but surely making a comeback as a destination city. With more affordable hotel rooms than other urban centers--especially on weekends, when the business visitors clear out--and a revitalized downtown, Detroit makes a surprisingly cool destination for your next girlfriends' getaway."
