Keegan-Michael Key on 'SNL'
OK, so we Detroiters can be provincial and get easily excited when someone mentions something about us on national TV.
Keegan-Michael Key, a Southfield native who hosted Saturday Night Live on Saturday night, mentioned Detroit at the start of his monologue.
"I have been a superfan of this show ever since I was a little kid. I grew up a block south of 8 Mile Road in Detroit and I used to sneak downstairs to watch 'SNL' every week. And if you had told, if you had told that kid that one day he would be standing here on this stage (pauses), he probably would have been too busy to stealing your wallet to hear what you said. I've come a long way since then."
The 50-year-old actor and comedian attended Catholic grade school in Detroit and Royal Oak Shrine High School.
He got an undergraduate degree from the University of Detroit Mercy and a Master of Fine Arts in theater at Pennsylvania State University. -- Allan Lengel
