Justice Bernstein gets behind the wheel

Blind Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein always wanted to drive.

On Tuesday, Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson let him take a spin in a car under controlled circumstances in front of dozens of spectators at the Genesee County Fairgrounds in Mt. Morris, station WNEM reports.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” Bernstein tells the station. “I’ve always wanted that feeling of what it’s like to hit the gas or what it’s like to turn on the ignition and what it’s like to operate a steering wheel.”

After taking a spin, he had a message for the Michigan Secretary of State: “I really need my driver’s license.”
