An uplifting video about Brightmoor wraps up a three-month "On the Ground" series of 16 articles at Model D about the plucky northwest Detroit area.

Roslyn English is director of a performing arts and athletic training program at Brightmoor Community Center.

In their five-minute tour and interviews (below), Oren Goldenberg of Cass Corridor Films and Matthew Lewis of Model D "get up close and personal with the doers and the makers that are rebuilding Brighmoor brick by brick, wall by wall," the weekly web magazine says. "It's a story to inspire neighborhood redevelopment across the city."

One of those interviewed, Dan Bandrowski of a faith-based youth center called Wellspring, says: "I love the energy that exists in Brightmoor, with residents and organizations that are seeking to counter some of the challenges that they face."

Roslyn English, executive director of a performing arts and athletic training nonprofit called Developing And Nurturing Community Empowerment (D.A.N.C.E.), tells the pair: "There's a lot of families, a lot of community leaders here in the Brightmoor area that are really dedicated to boosting the area and seeing youth developed."

Grayfield Street homeowner Riet Schumack, who's active in the Neighbors Building Brightmoor group, sees inviting opportunities for improvement. "All this vacant land is an open canvas," she says in the video.
