Joe The Chicken confronts Treasurer Eric Sabree.
Charlie LeDuff, a regular contributor to Deadline Detroit, sent one of his sidekicks on his local podcast, "The Charlie LeDuff No BS News Hour!" to confront Wayne County Treasurer Eric Sabree the other day, who has come under fire of late.
The sidekick, Joe Demarco, the show's chief deputy intern, suited up in a chicken suit as "Chicken Joe" and confronted Sabree as he was leaving a county building downtown. Joe asked him to comment on the scandal in which his wife and a company the couple co-founded bought tax-foreclosed properties through an auction his office oversees. His relatives including his sons, also acrued more than $58,000 in unpaid taxes.
Sabree kept telling the chicken he would defer comment until the ethics hearings are over. The chicken kept pressing him, asking "are you going to resign?" Sabree didn't answer, and at time tried to joke during the six-minute video. Joe also told him LeDuff wanted to interview him on his weekly podcast.
At the end, after Sabree drives off, Chicken Joe remarks: "That was fucking awesome."
