Late Mayor Coleman A. Young in commercial.
State Sen. Coleman A. Young II's campaign commercials have been aggressively negative. The first two attacked his opponent, incumbent Mayor Mike Duggan.
The latest one attacks Duggan, "white liberals" and black leaders who support the mayor for re-election.
The adds are a stark contrast to his father's 1989 commercials that were purely upbeat. We found two of them on YouTube.
In the first one, Young shmoozes and shakes hands and hugs with residents. In the second one, Young fields a question about crime from a citizens group.
Young tells the group a lot the criminals are teenagers who need to be locked up in a boot camp and taught about hard work and self respect.
Young beat challenger Tom Barrow that year to secure a fifth term.
He died in 1997 at age 79.
