A man who was getting ready to give a victim impact statement in Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit in the death of this daughter, 3, did what a lot people only fantasize about doing: He punched one of the defendants before quickly being pulled away by sheriff's deputies, WDIV reports.

The incident happened Thursday morning when Dwayne Smith, the biological father of Jamila Smith, 3, was ready to deliver a statement about the crime before the sentencing of the girl's mother and her boyfriend. Both were convicted of involuntary man slaughter and other charges related to the death of Jamila, who died from blunt force injuries.

Smith walked up to the boyfriend, Clifford Daniel Thomas, and punched him before he was pulled away and removed from the courtroom, the WDIV video shows.

The mother of the girl, Jasmine Gordon, was sentenced to 14-25 years on the child abuse conviction and 7-15 years on the manslaughter conviction, WDIV reports. Her sentences run concurrently.

The boyfriend was sentenced to 4.5-15 years on the manslaughter conviction and one to two years for resisting police.
