Eminem with actor Jake Gyllenhaal

Eminem, the homegrown star, made a surprise appearance for the screening of the new movie "Southpaw" Sunday night at the AMC Livonia 20 theater, Fox 2 reports.

Eminem, who produced the soundtrack for the movie, showed up with actor Jake Gyllenhaal, Fox 2 reports.

The two were introduced by Bushman of WJLB-FM. The visit wasn't announced beforehand.

Fox 2 reports that a  studio representative said both stars wanted to surprise fans.

"I'm super excited to be a part of it," he said. A video the appearance was posted on Facebook, and you can see plenty people in the audience had their cell phone cameras out.

Fox 2 reports that the lead role was originally written for Eminem, but he dropped out and Gyllenhaal took the part.

The film opens Friday.
