You can admire Belle Isle's year-round appeal in comfort this 10-degree day, thanks to local photographer Rod Arroyo.

The fountain designed by Cass Gilbert and sculpted by Herbert Adams in 1924-25 is enhanced by nature's textures in Rod Arroyo's striking image.
His three-minute slide show of a recent visit shows icy canals, wind-sculpted drifts and century-old architecture in a Currier and Ives-style landscape. Scenes include the aquarium, conservatory, James Scott Memorial Fountain, casino, Detroit Yacht Club, Nancy Brown Peace Carillon Clock and more.
"Belle Isle is one of my favorite places," the metro Detroit professional photographer posts at his website. During this shoot two weeks ago, "winds were blowing 20-30 mph, which I believe added to the winter feel of the setting."
