Gunshot victim "Geroune" (l) and counselor Calvin Evans (r)
A Detroit gunshot victim named Geroune wanted revenge when he got shot.
"I wanted to kill [the] bro for sure," says Geroune, whose lung was punctured by a bullet when road rage led to gunfire. "I wanted someone to kill 'em."
Now, he says: "I don't hate him. I forgive him."
Geroune is part of innovative program, D.L.I.V.E., which rebuilds the lives of gunshot victims in Detroit through counseling and support. It's based out of DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital in northwest Detroit.
Bill Kubota produced a seven-minute segment about D.L.I.V.E. for Detroit Public Television and the Detroit Journalism Cooperative.
It's certainly worth watching and gives hope that the vicious cycle of violence in the city can be addressed in more innovative ways.
