Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Sunday she's waiting her turn to get the Covid vaccine, and is open to taking any one of them, including Johnson & Johnson.
"I will get whatever vaccine is available to me because they all have high efficacy, they're all incredibly safe, and the quicker we can get to 70% of our population vaccinated, the quicker we can have some more normalcy in our day to day lives," Whitmer said on CNN's "State of the Union with Jake Tapper."
She also defended the state's policy on Covid patients in nursing homes.
"When you look at Michigan compared to other states, our nursing homes deaths are less than most," she said. "AARP has acknowledged that and the University of Michigan put out a study that shows our policies in that space actually saved a lot of lives. We've been very focused on helping our nursing homes and residents of nursing homes."
Whitmer has been criticized for not being transparent enough and releasing all the information about Covid and nursing homes. Deadline Detroit columnist Charlie LeDuff announced recently that he was working with the Mackinac Center to sue the state of Michigan to get all the data relating to Covid and nursing homes.
A Detroit News editorial on Sunday stated that "the Michigan governor has been sparing throughout the crisis in reporting data. An investigation is warranted to provide the transparency that is missing."
But Whitmer defended her transparency, saying she has released "an incredible amount" of data.
