A mother is grieving the loss of her seven-year-old daughter, who was killed early Sunday morning on I-94 near Metro Airport in Romulus after she was hit by a car.
Dessandra Thomas was in a vehicle with her father, who is suspected of driving drunk, when her father crashed into an abandoned car on the freeway.
She went to seek help when she was hit by a car. The father, who survived, is in police custody and charges are pending, Jessica Dupnack of Fox 2 reports.
"They say my daughter tried to save her father, she ran to get some help for her daddy," the mother, Sandria Burts, tells Fox 2. The father is her ex-husband.
"We are in shock but I know God is good and he is the only one that’s going to be able to bring me and my family through this,” she said.
