Ford CEO Alan Mulally talked to Stephen Colbert on Thursday night about the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, the 2008 auto bailout and reviving Detroit's economy.

"Do we pay off the debts by pulling the gold fillings out of the pensioners?" Stephen Colbert asks Ford CEO Alan Mulally.

His main hook for the five-minute Comedy Central segment (video below) was to talk about the 2015 Mustang, the latest update of iconic model Colbert calls "one of the coolest cars ever made."

As a few seconds of engine revving is played, "The Colbert Show" host quips: "That's enough, that's enough -- I'm going to get an erection."

The car executive laughs heartily, as he does during this exchange:

Mulally: The Mustang is the first real sports car that also is high utility because it had two seats in the back. It had a trunk.

Colbert: Of course it had two seats in the back. It was a Mustang! The reason it became an icon is because it got you laid. I hope you don't change that.

Mulally: It's still very much appreciated.

During a briefer discussion of Detroit's woes, Colbert asks: "Do we pay off the debts by pulling the gold fillings out of the pensioners?

Ford's top guy gives a benign response: "What they're doing is the right thing. Everybody's got to pull together to develop a better plan."
