Tough-talking Macomb County Circuit Judge Mary Chrzanowski, aka "Scary Mary," was profiled on NBC's Dateline show on Sunday night.
The profile shows that Chrzanowski, who sits on a drug court some days, tries to scare people straight. She would be at home chatting it up with truck drivers. She's no pushover.
"You want to be a tough guy. You get one punch with me and I'll let it be the best one that you have," she tells a defendant in court.
She tells NBC's Lester Holt she wanted to be known as a tough judge.
"Yes, I take the law seriously."
She says she first heard her nickname when an inmate said to her secretary: "Oh, you work for scary Mary."
