NBC's late night host Seth Meyers weighed in Tuesday night on the Detroit school situation and sickouts and used it to talk about society's lack of appreciation for teachers:
"Today was teacher appreciation day but for teachers in Detroit it was probably hard to feel appreciated as teachers there have been staging a sickout this week after the school district said it wouldn't be able to pay them for hours already worked."
“Clearly there is something wrong with the way our society values the work teachers do, and yet when teachers object to budget cuts or ask for increases in pay, they are dismissed and the politicians who dismiss them are often celebrated as straight-shooters.”
