It was July 14, 1970 and President Richard Nixon was in his first term.

Nixon was tasked with throwing out the ceremonial first pitch for the 41st All Star Game at the new Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati.

Nixon tossed the ball to a smiling All Star Tigers' catcher Bill Freehan, who was 29 at the time. Four years later, Nixon would resign. Freehan, who is now 76, retired from baseball in 1976.
