At the tail end of a week marked by sweltering heat, a bankruptcy thunderclap and real thunderstorms, a literally uplifting story seems especially refreshing.
This one comes from Don Gardner of The Macomb Daily, who reports on the first eaglet born in Stony Creek Metropark.
The young bird recently took flight for the first time.
It can now be seen circling the area around its nest as it gains strength and confidence in its flying ability. . . .
Toward the end of July or early August, the young bird will begin traveling with its parents to learn how to hunt for itself.
The two-minute video below is by Joan Bonin of Rochester, whose description says: "We were thrilled to see her fly for the first time. It can't get any better than this."
