Hedwig, is that you?
Unlike most people, snowy owls seem to actually like being stuck at an airport for a few days.
The creatures are drawn to airports during winter migration because the flat, open spaces look like the arctic, where the owls spend most of the year.
Michigan Radio reports that this has been a busy year for airport owls. Detroit Metro Airport removed eight owls during Christmas week.
The owls have to removed from the airspace to prevent owl and plane run-ins, which end badly for everyone involved.
“They will be moved to a distance greater than 50 miles away from the airport, so that hopefully it doesn't become a future problem,” says airport spokesman Brian Lassaline.
Detroit isn't the only place the owls stop -- the Windsor Star reports the Windsor airport is also chasing an owl around. They creatures are often spotted searching for winter food around the Midwest and Northeast.
