Issues with drinking water are not taken lightly these days in Michigan.
On Wednesday, the city of Highland Park advised residents to to boil their water until further notice, a result of a warehouse fire in the 14300 block of Hamilton that was sending big plumes of smoke into the air, visible for miles, James David Dickson and Holly Fournier of The Detroit News report.
“It’s pertaining to the fire, because the water pressure is so low because the fire is so massive,” said Ruth Harlin, executive assistant to Mayor Hubert Yopp.
“There may be some discoloration when those sediments in the pipes come into the homes because the pressure is so low,” she said. “The mayor just wanted the community to immediately start boiling their water. It’s precautionary at this point.”
The flames were first reported around 2:30 a.m., the News reports. By 8 a.m., the fire was contained but still burning, the News reports.
Discolored water. Water-boiling advisory. Mmm. Sounds familiar. Some residents may want to opt for bottled water.
