Warren Evans took some action Monday that's sure to get a warm response from the electorate.

The newly-minted Wayne County executive announced he will save taxpayers $1.2 million with fewer staff and lower salaries, the Detroit News reports.

Holly Fournier of the Detroit News reports that Evans will reduce the salaries of all appointees by 5 percent.  He'll also have nine fewer appointees than his predecessor Robert Ficano.

“The county is facing difficult financial problems, and I will deal with those issues in a forthright and transparent manner beginning day one,” Evans said, according to the News.
