In one of the more unusual criminal cases, a Warren man pleaded guilty Thursday in Macomb County Circuit Court to a felony neglect charge in the death of his morbidly obese wife, who had been bedridden, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Michael Brooks, 38, pleaded guilty to leaving his wife Yolanda Reese-Brooks, 40, to decline in her own waste, the Freep reported. His attorney David Draper said he opted for the plea rather than relive the whole thing at trial, according to the Freep.
“He didn’t want to relive it. We would have had to call his kids who are older. It would be hard on him. It’s a traumatic thing for a child,” Draper said after the plea was entered.
The guidelines call for prison time.
