Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer's son Michael Dwyer had a long history of battling drug abuse.The chief made no secret of that.
On Wednesday, Michael, who is in his 50s and lived in Southfield, was found dead in an abandoned home on Barnell Street near Puritan in northwest Detroit, Fox 2 reports. A fire had burned at the home on Oct. 26.
The body was identified through fingerprints, according to the Medical Examiner's Office. The cause and manner of his death have not yet been determined.

In 2009, Michael Dwyer was charged with cocaine possession after serving as driver for a man who stole $65 in batteries from a Ferndale CVS, the Macomb Daily reported.
Ferndale police arrested Dwyer after he fled into a nearby backyard. He was carrying several peices of rock cocaine.
"Addiction is a disease," William Dwyer told the paper at the time.
