Cass Avenue in Midtown Detroit gets more festive, starting in June.
Wayne State University's Farmers Market at 5401 Cass Ave. kicks off its ninth season next Wednesday, offering local vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers, honey, baked goods and hot and cold lunch items.
The market operates every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Oct. 26.
Vendors include Brother Nature Produce, D-Town Farm, Van Houtte Farms, and Burda’s Berries, as well as newcomers such as Greening of Detroit and Detroit Peppers, according to a media release.
Sellers also include Avalon International Breads, Brooklyn Street Local, Russell Street Deli, Mystic Kettle, Sweet Potato Sensations and Drifter coffee.
The market accepts the Michigan Bridge Card, Double Up Food Bucks, WIC Project FRESH and Senior Project FRESH coupons.
“The Wayne State University Farmers Market supports Michigan producers, increasing access to healthy food for people who live and work on and near campus, and creates a social, convivial atmosphere in the heart of midtown,” says Kami Pothukuchi, SEED Wayne director and faculty member in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning.
