J. Mikel Ellcessor has resigned as general manager of Detroit public radio station WDET 101.9 FM to take a job in Minnesota, Bill Shea reports in Crain's Detroit Business.

He will join St. Paul-based nonprofit Krista Tippett Public Productions, according to a note he emailed the WDET staff on Friday.

Ellcessor's last day is Aug. 23.

Tippett is the host of On Being, a Minnesota Public Radio show about religion and faith, and Ellcessor told his staff that he previously had a working relationship with her.

Ellcessor's tenure included a rose to prominence of Craig Fahle's morning interview show, noteworthy enterprise by the station's news department and a balancing of issue programming and weekend music shows.
