Ruth Spencer, a fixture at WDIV for the past 25 years, is hanging it up at the end of the year, the station announced on Wednesday.
The station reported that Spencer and her husband will retire in Longboat Key, Fla., where they've been building a house.
“I’ve been in television news since 1981 -- spending the last 25 years here at Local 4,” Spencer said, according to a story on the station's website. “I’ve felt privileged to serve our loyal viewers as a nightly news anchor and as the consumer investigator heading up the ‘Ruth to the Rescue’ unit."
Spencer started her career at WDIV in 1990 anchoring the early evening newscast. She currently solo anchors the station’s number one early newscast “First at 4” and “Local 4 News at 5:30” with Devin Scillian.
The station reports that for 22 years, her “Ruth to the Rescue” reporting has helped viewers resolve consumer complaints.
