A boutique hotel is in the works on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit called Shinola Hotel.

Shinola and Dan Gilbert's Bedrock Real Estate Services are joining forces to create the hotel in the red eight-story building downtown at 1400 Woodward Ave., Sherri Welch of Crain's Detroit Business reports.

Crain's reports:

Developing a hotel is a step well outside Shinola's previous retail focus, which encompasses watches, bicycles and other items, assembled in Detroit. Renovations on the building are set to begin in November and wrap up in time for a fall 2018 opening of the 130-room Shinola Hotel.

The companies plan to use New York-based restaurant company NoHo Hospitality Group, winner of some prestigious awards, to handle the food and beverage elements of the hotel.
