Westland Police officer Joshua Scaglione pulled over Lavonte Dell of Inkster on Monday for tinted windows and noticed that he had a three-year-old daughter who wasn't in a car seat.
He could have ticketed him.
Instead, Scaglione surprised Dell by directing him to drive with him to Walmart where he bought him a baby seat with his own money, Mara MacDonald of WDIV reports.
Dell was taken aback and overjoyed by the act of kindness, but he forgot to take down the cop's name. He posted something about it on Facebook and then on Wednesday he got to meet with the officer, WDIV reports. The station was there to see the meet up.
Dell hugged the Westland police officer and thanked him.
"I don't know if I gave you too much attention." Dell told the officer, according to the WDIV report.
Officer Scaglione replied: "What you did was give positive attention to this department and to law enforcement and I can do nothing but thank you for doing that."
Scaglione tells WDIV the story has gone national and he's gotten notes from people thanking him.
