The race has begun.

Westland Mayor Bill Wild announced on Wednesday his candidacy for Wayne County Executive in 2014 in a race that's likely to focus on scandal that has plagued the current administration.

“The message is clear--people want a transformation in Wayne County," Wild said in a statement.  "They are tired of scandals. They want, expect and deserve more for their tax dollars. It has been frustrating and embarrassing watching what has happened in our county."

The current County Executive, Robert Ficano, has yet to declare whether he'll run. But whatever the case, he's sure to be a subject on the campaign trail.

Some of Ficano's key aides have been convicted of corruption, and his administration has been under FBI investigation. Ficano has not been accused of wrongdoing, but his leadership and integrity has come under public scrutiny.

Other names that have surfaced as possible candidates include Wayne County Commissioner Kevin McNamara and state Rep. Phil Cavanagh.

Wild, the father of three, was elected to a third term as Westland mayor last year.

“I surround myself with talented ethical people and I demand results. I bring my business experience and work ethics to work with me every day," WIld said in a statement.
