In another disappointing outing Sunday, Justin Verlander gave up five runs — three earned — in 6 1/3 innings and suffered his third consecutive loss. It is the first time that he's lost three starts in a row since 2008.

Verlander's problems are only the start. Thate litany of problems is long, as Bob Wojonwoski writes Monday.

"Frustration is etched in a lot of places, as a team with enormous expectations faces all sorts of obstacles," says Wojnowski. "It says something that minor league call-up Quintin Berry, an energetic guy with nothing to lose, is playing well, while someone like Boesch is feeling the pressure. I bet this is no coincidence: Boesch is hitting .286 on the road and .178 at home."

On WDIV-TV (Channel 4) Sunday night, commentator Rob Parker questioned whether Leyland would finish the season as the Tigers' manager. It marked one of the first time anyone has publicly questioned the standing of the gnarly old dude in the Detroit dugout.
