First off, you really have to ask: What took so long?

It's not like the square, deep dish pizza is a revolutionary concept. Buddy's has been peddling it since 1946.

Nonetheless, Detroit-based Little Caesars and Madison Heights-based Hungry Howie's must have had a simultaneous ephiphany. Both happened to unveil on Monday their new square, deep dish pizza.

Little Caesars is selling a Detroit-style DEEP!DEEP! Dish pizza. Hungry Howie's is pedding the "world's first deep dish flavored-crust pizza," according to its website.

A large Hungry Howie's deep dish with one topping goes for $10.  The Little Caesars pizza sells for $8.

Little Caesars trumpeted the new pizza in a big big way, saying in a press release that it was "unveiling the biggest product introduction in the company’s 54-year history: the new DEEP!DEEP! Dish pizza." -- Allan Lengel
