Governor-elect Gretchen Whitmer will right what she sees as one of Gov. Rick Snyder's many wrongs — cutting off free water bottle shipments to Flint, where lead pipes have yet to be replaced. Snyder put an end to the state-funded deliveries in April.
Michigan Advance has the exclusive:
The Republican’s administration cited almost two years of test results showing falling lead levels in city tap water. But many Flint leaders and residents remain alarmed about water safety, especially given faulty government assurances in the past.
Democratic Gov.-elect Gretchen Whitmer told the Michigan Advance in an exclusive interview this month that she will have her administration distribute bottled water until lead pipes are all replaced.
Indeed, many Flint residents still don't feel the water is safe to drink. They currently receive free water bottle shipments from Nestlé Waters, which is looking to restore its image in Michigan. But they've complained on social media that Nestlé Waters' brings a limited supply into the city, and that the shipments quickly run out.
