On Monday, in the midst of this tough winter, we got a little reprieve. It didn't snow.
Still, near Campus Martius in the heart of downtown Detroit, we got some snowfall.
I was walking down Michigan Avenue near Woodward and spotted a machine spewing snow. I turned to a friend and said: "Who needs to make snow during a winter like this?"
Well, apparently the folks do who are running the annual Meridian Winter Blast, which begins downtown on Friday and runs through Sunday.
Jennifer Sutton, a spokeswoman for the event, said the snow on Michigan Avenue, just west of Woodward, is being manufactured for a 200-foot snow slide. She said snow will also be produced at Cadillac Square for snow shoeing.
It's been one of those winters: Even when it doesn't snow, we get more snow.
