It's like a stoner's midnight craving: If only I could get Cheeseburger Egg Rolls and Chocolate Pepperemint Pancakes at the same joint.

Well, Detroit is where anything weird can happen,. Those real items from Applebee's and International House of Pancakes may be among treats that can be ordered at Millender Center a year from now, when downtown has the world's only combo site of those chains.

Burgers and pancakes will be on the menu, though your results when ordering may vary from this.

JC Reindl of the Free Press describes it as a "300-seat gastronomic experiment" and says the menu is in the works. His paper breathlessly announces the culinary revolution with a #BREAKING news tweet Wednesday afternoon.

The mash-up due to open in late 2017 may stimulate some appetites, but also is an immediate target of ridicule.

Brenna Houck, editor of Eater Detroit, says it's "like a mutant straight out of X Men" and is "an unholy combo if ever there was one." It'll be a destination, she suggests, "for those with simultaneous cravings for Swedish crepes and a Thai shrimp salad."

At the Free Press' site, reader Kip Fonner comments: "Are we supposed to proud of this?" Another visitor, Dale Anderson of Northville, reacts sarcastically: "Great, what took them so long! Now I can finally sleep at night."
