Can ex-Tiger Rick Porcello become an ace pitcher for the Boston Red Sox?

Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald apparently thinks that's a possibility.

He writes:

From the warmup tosses of his first pre-spring training bullpen session last week through each and every start he makes for the Red Sox this season, it will all come back to one fundamental question with Rick Porcello: Who is he?

Porcello went almost directly from his senior prom at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, N.J., to the big leagues and spent six seasons as a back-end starter in the Detroit Tigers’ star-studded rotation. Now, given the unique opportunity of becoming a free agent before his 27th birthday, the right-hander is joining a Sox team that is still seeking an ace.

Into that void steps Porcello, the primary if indirect return for the Sox’ former ace (Jon Lester was traded in July for Yoenis Cespedes, who was dealt in December for Porcello). And he will either prove he’s ready to emerge as a front man or reinforce his standing as just another member of the band.
