Windsor is the most affordable in Canada, according to real estate firm Coldwell Banker.
The Windsor Star reports a company survey of listings in 75 Canadian markets in the first half of 2012 found Windsor to be the most affordable for the four-bedroom, two-bathroom homes sought by “move-up” buyer.
The average price earlier this year in Windsor for what Coldwell Banker calls “aspirational homes” was $170,991. It was the only Canadian market in the survey where the average price was below $200,000.
The Canadian dollar is about even with the U.S. dollar this week.
While Windsor was more than 10 times cheaper than Vancouver, it was still relatively pricey compared to many bargain home markets in the United States, according to the Coldwell Banker survey.
Redford topped the affordability list of 2,479 U.S. markets with an average price of $60,490. Detroit was third at $65,155. The closest market to Windsor’s average price was Altus, Okla., at No. 512.
