A 23-year-old Wayne State University senior, who was about to donate a kidney to a young man at her church, was killed in a car crash on Detroit's west side early Monday morning, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Robert Allen of the Detroit Free Press reported that Diamond Scott, 23, was killed at about 4 a.m. as her car was headed northbound on Greenfield at Curtis. Police suspect the other driver, who is in critical condition, blew through a red light and crashed into her side.

Zachary Hicks, the pastor of Faith Clinic Ministries where the Scott family attended, and another person, said that Scott had volunteered to donate a kidney to a 21-year-old man at their church, and the surgery was supposed to take place in a few weeks, the Freep reported.

“She just was always uplifting,” said Deshaunda Sullivan, 23, Scott’s best friend. “I called her for anything, and she was always there.”

The Freep reported that Scott had just accepted a job in dealing with troubled youth in Baton Rouge, La., Fox 2 reported.  -- Allan Lengel
