Some of Wayne County’s top elected officials met with the head of the Wayne County Commission today, urging him to ask County Executive Robert Ficano to “fill a leadership void” or resign.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, Register of Deeds Bernard Youngblood, Treasurer Ray Wojtowicz and representatives of Clerk Cathy Garret’s and Sheriff Benny Napoleon’s offices met with Commission Chairman Gary Woronchak this morning, 7 Action News has learned.

Things have not gone well for Ficano since it was revealed last fall that his former Economic Development Director Turkia Mullin took a $200,000 severance payment when she voluntarily left that post to work for the Wayne County Airport Authority.

Mullin was very soon after fired from her airport job, top Ficano appointees, including deputy Executive Azzam Elder, were forced to resign, and the FBI is investigating allegations of corruption within the Executive’s office.
