JoAnne Purtan was taping a promotional video on Thursday

On a very frigid Thursday afternoon, cameramen were taping a promotional video in downtown Detroit with anchor JoAnne Purtan, who will begin delivering the noon newscast from the station's new studio next Thursday inside The Qube building at Woodward and Fort Street.

David Baumann, director of creative services, tells Deadline Detroit that the station is opening the studio in what was formerly called the Chase Building, so it can be "right in the middle of the renaissance of downtown Detroit."

He said Purtan will broadcast the noon report Monday through Friday from the downtown location. He said reporters will also be able to tape interviews there with downtown newsmakers such as Mayor Mike Duggan and Police Chief James Craig or broadcast reports live.

Next Thursday, from 11:30 to 1 p.m., the station will have a celebration in the lobby to mark the debut of the first broadcast.
