A 16-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 29-year-old pregnant woman from Melvindale, who was found dead Friday inside an abandoned home on the city's southwest side about a week after she was reported missing, WXYZ reports.

Family members tell WXYZ's Shelley Childers that the victim, Amanda Benton, a mother of four, was battling a drug addiction and was ready to turn her life around through rehab. She was expected to check into rehab when she went missing.

"Everyone suffers from some kind of addiction, alcohol, gambling, anything -- or has a family member struggling. It's a demon. It's not something they can just get rid of and they need help,"  Jessica Mason, sister of the victim, told the station. The 16-year-old is expected to be formally charged Monday.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for funeral costs.
