Metro Detroit had a connection to the London Bridge attackers.

One of the three attackers had told a former friend that his views of Islam were inspired by Dearborn cleric Ahamd Musa Jebril, 45, who has videotapes on YouTube, according to the BBC.

Now, YouTube, which is owned by Google, has determined that the videos do not violate company policy and won't be removed. Jebril last posted a video in 2014, but continues to have an international following, reports Niraj Warikoo of the Detroit Free Press.

YouTube said Jebril's videos didn't incite violence, but were instead about Islamic teachings including interpretations of Islam's holy book, the Quran, behavior in Islam, fasting, and what Jebril sees as the limits of Western medicine.

"We want to make sure that terrorists do not have a voice and cannot spread extremist material on our services," Peter Barron, a vice president at Google, said in a statement to the Free Press.

"We are working urgently to improve and accelerate our ability to remove content which violates our policies and the law. These are complicated and challenging problems, but we know we can do better and we are committed to working with the government to ensure that we are part of a lasting solution."

On some social media, his name is spelled Jibril.

Local reporters and ones from London were seen the past couple days on Rosalie Street in Dearborn where neighbors say he lives with his wife. He was nowhere to be seen during the day and may have slipped into the house late a night for several hours before leaving, according to a neighbor.

Jebril has been on the FBI's radar, but has never been charged with terrorism.

He served 6 1/2 years in prison for financial fraud and money laundering and was released in 2012.
