Zingerman’s-backed Korean eatery Miss Kim has started with a soft launch.
It opened Tuesday at 415 N. Fifth Ave in the Kerrytown neighborhood. San Street Food founder Ji Hye Kim is behind the 85-seat project, Brenna Houck writes at Eater Detroit. The restaurant serves contemporary dishes rooted in Korean food traditions.
Hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 5-10 p.m.
Menu items include stone bowl bibimbob (meat or vegetarian) with kimchi and broth; seared shrimp skewers with sesame oil; Vietnamese-style meatballs; salmon tartare with Asian pears, chives; and black rice and barley porridge with mushrooms.
The restaurant describes itself this way:
Miss Kim is a new Korean restaurant from Zingerman’s. We serve food and drink rooted in tradition and adapted to where we are now— our dishes are made from scratch from local ingredients whenever possible, and we work with local farmers to build a menu that changes seasonally. We encourage you to order a variety of dishes to share and enjoy. It’s our aim to provide a warm atmosphere with the same great service you’ve come to expect from the Zingerman’s family.
As a no-tip restaurant, we pay our staff a living wage that is not dependent on gratuity, with full benefits. Keeping with Korean culture, the price includes food and hospitality—there is no need to add anything extra. At Miss Kim, what you see is what you get.
