Bill Schuette and Gretchen Whitmer

Bill Schuette and Gretchen Whitmer
New polling from EPIC-MRA of Lansing shows Democrat Gretchen Whitmer's lead over Republican opponent Bill Schuette, has shrunk to eight percentage points, from double digits a few weeks ago, the Free Press reports:
The poll commissioned by the Free Press and its outstate media partners shows Whitmer with 45 percent support, compared with 37 percent for Schuette. Another 11 percent were either undecided or refused to answer, while 2 percent said they support Libertarian Bill Gelineau and 5 percent said they support another unspecified candidate.
Things are generally good for Democrats statewide; in the attorney general race, Dana Nessel is up by six points over Tom Leonard, Jocelyn Benson has a nine-point lead over Mary Treder Lang in the secretary of state contest, and Debbie Stabenow is ahead of John James in the race for U.S. Senate by more than 20 points. However, large numbers of voters are still undecided.
The phone poll of 600 active and likely voters was taken Sept. 21-25 and has a four-point error margin. It was conducted by live interviewers and 30 percent of respondents were reached by cell phones.
The election is Nov. 6. The last day to register is Oct. 9.
