Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkins calls it a "game-changer."
Whether that turns out to be true is yet to be determined.
But what is clear is that Windsor plans to piggyback on Detroit’s bid to Amazon, which intends to build a second headquarters somewhere in North America.
A joint pitch give would provide a unique international offering and give access to tech talent on both sides of the border, reports Doug Schmidt of the Windsor Star. A local headquarters would generate about 50,000 jobs, and workers would be spread out in multiple facilities.
Mayor Drew Dilkens tells the Star that he’s meeting this week with Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert, who has been asked by Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan to lead that city’s bid.
“It’s very exciting,” Dilkens told the Star. He said it would mean Windsor becomes “significantly invested in the tech sector.”
“It would be hard to ignore our bid … it could be something no one else can offer,” he said, calling it a “game-changer.”
