After 22 years in business, Monterrey Cantina, the Mexican restaurant on Main Street that had a great patio, has folded.

Hometown Life reports that the restaurant will be replaced by another Mexican eatery called Mesa.

The paper writes:

New owners Michael Sophiea and Darrel Krause have an extensive history in Royal Oak as Sophiea currently owns and operates Oak City Grille and formerly owned Rumors Bar and Local 212. Krause used to manage Woody’s Diner and Duggan’s Irish Pub.

The two currently own and operate Ciccarelli’s Sports Bar in Auburn Hills and Detroit.

“They intend to give this place a nice facelift and jazz it up a bit,” said attorney Kelly Allen, representing their business MLS Hospitality.
