Mass arrests ordered in recent months by Detroit Police Chief James Craig have generated a lot of media coverage. Many have asked: Have they really made any difference or have they really been more for show?
If you ask WDIV reporter Chauncy Glover, who ventured out to some of the impacted neighborhoods, the answer is, they've absolutely made an impact.
Glover reports that most residents said life since the raids has been much better.
"It's more peaceful, not too much bickering or arguing," said Donna Johnson at the Colony Arms Apartments on East Jefferson.
Another resident, who was leaning out the window, told Glover: "It's great."
With the good, comes some bad.
One resident said there appears to be some distrust among residents since the raids, and some have accused others of "snitching."
Still, on the city's east side around Morang and Kelly, Glover spoke to a woman who said there's been a dramatic turnaround.
"It was a time you would see stolen cars around here.... You don't see that anymore. You don't hear gunfire anymore."
She went on to say: "This chief is exactly what we needed because he's getting things done in a wonderful way. And I feel safer and I've been living in Detroit for over 40 years and have never felt this safe."
